The FIRST Lions Club in Tokoroa.
An all male club well known for its sales of hypo, and calf rearing for charity.

After Cyclone Gabrielle Tokoroa Host Lions wanted to help those affected in the Hawkes Bay region.
It was decided rather than donating cash to a relief fund, Tokoroa Host Lions were to donate fencing materials to the Hawkes Bay rural community.
Individual Lions members and Roundwood New Zealand helped to donate at cost price $58,000 worth of fencing posts for the project. The posts were donated through Jim Galloway at Federated Farmers who worked to distribute the product in Hawkes Bay. Federated Farmers also purchased a third trailer through Roundwood New Zealand at cost price to send to the Bay. Roundwood New Zealand donated the cartage cost of trucking the posts there. In total there were three fully loaded truck and trailer units of posts sent to the Hawkes Bay farming community. This meant the total support package was at a value of over $70,000.
posts
The donation of posts to the Hawkes Bay was over and above the usual projects we do in our local community.
Examples of other projects we have been involved with are:
bball
construction of a mini-basketball court in Tokoroa;
groundworks for the Health Shuttle buildings;
and construction of picnic tables in various locations throughout our community, to name a few.

Tokoroa Host Lions also raise funds to aid charities such as the Westpac Helicopter Trust, Cancer Lodge in Hamilton, the Tokoroa Health Shuttle, Tokoroa Mountain Bike Club, the Foodbank etc, etc.
We continue to raise funds for all these projects through our sales of Hypo (Hypochloric Acid) in Tokoroa, and the farmers annual calf collection.
We collect calves from local farmers and the funds raised from this are donated back into the community. We then hold an annual dinner as a thank you to all the Tokoroa and district farmers that have donated calves.
  We do a whole host of other fund-raising activities and other social events during the year, but this article is too long already to mention everything.
  So, if you are interested in joining our band of "Merry Men", please come along and see for yourself!! Join the fun and do something worth-while.
